FC FREDERICK DEFEATS FFC 2-0

FC Frederick netted a goal in each half and goalkeeper Phil Breno turned in a shutout performance as the home team posted a 2-0 win over Fredericksburg FC, ending the Virginia team’s undefeated season.

FC Frederick improves to 4-2-3 with one match remaining. Fredericksburg FC, which has clinched one of the two Mid-Atlantic Conference playoff spots, falls to 6-1-3.

The win extends FC Frederick’s undefeated streak to six matches (4-0-2) and keeps the team in contention to tie for second place on points in the conference standings. FC Frederick completed its home schedule with a 3-1-1 record at Thomas Athletic Field on the campus of Hood College.

Drew Demich started the scoring in the 26th minute, volleying a cross from Zach Hommey past Fredericksburg keeper Pierre Gardan. Breno, meanwhile, turned away a breakaway shot by Juan Solano as FC Frederick carried the 1-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, William Eskay put the game away with an unassisted goal in the 68th minute.

Fredericksburg outshot Frederick 15-13 and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks, but could not get anything past Breno, who finished with four saves.

John Marc Charpentier, Zack Smythe, Jake Garcia, Adam Crenshaw and Nate Eiben anchored Frederick’s defense, leading to the team’s first-ever shutout.

FC Frederick finishes its season Sunday at Chesterfield United.
