INCHING TOWARDS THE PLAYOFFS

The playoffs are coming! We are just weeks away from the postseason, where NPSL action is taken to a whole new level of intensity.  Teams will get to play outside of their conference and then their region to decide who is the very best team in all of the league.

Here are some highlights from this weekend’s matches:

South Region

Nashville FC ended its mid-season slump after defeating Georgia Revolution, 3-1, Saturday, but it was a standout goal from Nashville FC’s Elliot Goodwin within the first minute that set the tone for the entire match. It may have been the only goal in the first half, but Nashville FC returned with even more intensity to finish off the final 45 minutes of the game. Roberto Pimental scored his first goal for the club when he drilled the ball into the back of the net, following a pass from Goodwin in the 55th minute. And though Georgia put a goal past NFC’s Stephen Lunney, it was Luke Gearin who capped off the victory with a penalty kick, ensuring the team got the win it so desperately needed.

Corinthians FC of San Antonio suffered their second conference loss of the season Friday night, falling to conference leader Tulsa Athletics 3-0.

Northeast Region

Midfielder Michael Gonzalez, who tallied a goal and an assist, led FC LVU Sonic to a 3-0 win over the Buxmont Torch on Saturday.  Buxmont had better luck against the Pocono Snow on Wednesday, winning 4-2 thanks to two goals and an assist from midfielder Kyle Richardville.

West Region

Three goals from Brett Croft helped FC Santa Clarita Storm to a 4-2 win over Del Rey City SC, while FC Force and FC Hasental battled to a 1-1 draw.  The San Diego Flash found themselves with a 3-3 draw at the hands of Temecula FC, but remain in the playoff hunt.

Spartans Futbol Club defeated Inter United 8-1 in their final home match in league play.
